This fall, Impact7G removed brush from the perimeter of the Transvaal Prairie at Hickory Hill Park for City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation. In 2019, the woody species were killed standing, and now that the brush is consolidated into habitat piles, they are providing refugia for insects, small mammals, and other wildlife. The woody material removed included invasive species as well as opportunistic shrubs that commonly encroach into tallgrass prairie when there is less frequent disturbance like the historical prescribed burning we had here in the Midwest.
Impact7G works across Iowa to restore and manage native and natural habitats. We help private and public landowners provide quality habitat for plants, wildlife, insects, humans, and others. Reach out to us to learn more!
