Michael Diercks
Field Technician & Archaeologist

As a field technician and archaeologist, Michael will be assisting with cultural resource projects such as Phase I investigation, site monitoring, and related services. He also provides on-call assistance to other departments as needed.

Michael graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with Bachelor of Science degrees in both History and Anthropology and an undergraduate certificate in Geoarchaeology. His archaeological studies focused on Mississippian-related cultures, particularly those around his hometown of Red Wing, Minnesota. His first field experience was a field school through Washington University, St. Louis, held at Mound 34 at Cahokia near Collinsville, Illinois. He has since worked on a recovery project near Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota.

Off the clock
Outside of work Michael enjoys PC gaming and the music of Sabaton, Powerwolf and others. He is happiest when behind the wheel of his car en route to a new adventure while blasting heavy metal music. One day, he would like to visit Stockholm, Sweden and see significant locations from the 17th and early 18th centuries, including the burial place of his personal hero, King Charles XII.
