A historical survey conducted as part of the Mississippi Drive improvement project identified a few significant historic properties along the proposed road improvement corridor. The Howard and Deems Garage, an early automotive repair facility and car dealership was one such property.  Prior to roadway construction, the City of Muscatine approached Impact7G to document the historic garage before it would be affected by roadwork.

Data collection relied on obtaining as many property records as possible, scouring archives, reviewing seemingly unassociated historic photographs from around Muscatine, and utilizing museum and library resources. Results of research and public engagement was synthesized into a publication that shined a light on an often-overlooked aspect of community development. With documentation completed, the City of Muscatine successfully recorded their community heritage while meeting current infrastructure needs.
