Woodlands: Management Basics and Ecosystem Services
August 30, 2022

Impact7G’s Conservation Education Film Series rolls on with part three, the basics of woodland management and the many ecosystem services woodlands provide. This short film introduces a common theme in Iowa’s restoration landscape: how can we bring back the functions and benefits of degraded natural areas? For woodlands, most of which remnants have all but disappeared in Iowa, the answer may begin right in your backyard.

Join Impact7G’s Chant Eicke, a senior project manager leading restoration efforts in Iowa on public and private properties across the state. Brent Keninger, staff forester, speaks to the history of Iowa’s woodland landscape and some of the simple methods for re-establishing oak-hickory ecosystems. Following this video will be a in-depth look at common restoration techniques, centering around Impact7G’s work at the Johnson County Historic Poor Farm.

The series is funded in part by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ REAP program. Impact7G partnered with Little Village Creative Services of Iowa City to help produce and edit the series.
